Reason you race the Ultra4 Australia series?: After we expanded from racing the Winch truck to also having the Ultra4, there was no better place to dip our toes into the Ultra4 world than Ultra4 Australia. We originally fell in love with one day racing in the King Of The Hammers. The idea of shoving the car and all our race gear into a 20ft shipping container and meeting it thousands of kilometres away in another country and competing with the best of the best had us hooked. We were All In. We had to start somewhere in this sport and Ultra4 Australia is that somewhere, it’s our reason.
About your vehicle: Our Ultra4 is one of the first competitive race car designs from Jimmys 4x4 in Cotrez, CO. It Began life in the USA and from the stories we’ve heard it has competed in at least 6 King of the Hammers with multiple drivers, last of which was with Chris Hummer in 2019. We purchased the car from Chris in the start of 22’. It now has been ¾ refurbished, with a stroked LS2 V8, full Haltech canbus wiring system, brand new diff housings have just been put under and have been made wider for extra stability and minimising the need for wheel spacers. Turbo 400 transmission to an Atlas Transfer case. Fresh 2’’ King Quad Bypass Shocks and 2’’ King Coilovers on each corner, all wrapped in Procomp Rims from Chris at Dynamic Wheel co and Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 40’s.
Our Gq Patrol Limited truck originated from the one and only Barry Smethurst From Road Runner Offroad as a proven Winch truck that competed in the Ironman 4X4 Adventure Challenge in WA and in the Wilddog Winch Challenge. The truck has since been fully refurbished with a brand new chassis which we modified to suit 3’’ king coilovers in the front. Driven by an LS2 V8 and an RE4 Automatic trans, standard geared transfer case from a Gu patrol and all Gu Patrol running gear, ARB Airlockers, One off Custom built diff housings from Matt at Kinselas Kustoms. Full fabricated dash and console interior setup, keeping it simple with the same haltech system as the Ultra4 so all the ECU’s and relay control boxes are interchangeable. Even the Garmin GPS systems are interchangeable but the Gq runs 2 Gps units on the navigators side to easily navigate waypoints in the long coarse endurance events like cliffhanger.
